HAPPY 2010! I hope you all had a good holiday season. As for us, party animals that we are, we rang in the new year in complete style. We threw a last minute family Wii session at our house because we were feeling like losers not having any plans on NYE. Billie, Keith and I played Super Mario Bros. through the night, and Bax and his daddy welcomed the new decade like this:
Zooming back to Christmas, we celebrated at our house with my side of the family. (Each year we alternate celebrating Thanksgiving and Christmas with the Lugods and Baloghs, and this year the Lugods got Christmas. Next year, the Lugods have Thanksgiving and we'd like to fly down and celebrate with the extended Lugod pamilya in Oceanside.) We had a Christmas lunch with dinner fixings -- what can I say? We do things a little differently. :) As usual, we had entirely too much food. Bee and Keith made most of it. The turkey was good, the apple pie looked a little questionable. My dad made ribs and I made lasagna. After eating, we opened presents. Baxter had most of the gifts under the tree, surprise surprise.
Here he is with Sophie the Giraffe. When I was pregnant, Sophie was continually the #1 baby toy on Amazon.com. Michael and I wondered why this overpriced French rubber toy was so great, so I got one for Baxter. As soon as he saw it, he smiled, reached for it and started gnawing on it. Sophie is tres magnifique.
He also got a bunch of clothes from family and friends. Here's Cowboy Bax in the sweet duds Tita Mila got him. (Note the socks are made to look like boots! Too cute!)
I've also started cloth diapering Baxter. Because he was a preemie, I had to wait a while for him to beef up so I could use all the diapers I had stashed in his dresser. It was probably good that I waited a couple weeks anyway, as trying to figure in cloth diapering with being a new parent would have been overwhelming. I like the eco-conscious aspect of it by not clogging the landfills with diapers that take 500 years to decompose. I like that the cloth is gentler on his skin, and dig the cool colors. I like that I can use these particular diapers over and over until he's 35 lbs (and hopefully he's potty trained by then). I like the cost-effectiveness of it, especially if we have more children. Washing the diapers isn't that bad either, so all in all, I'm pleased. The downside to cloth is that they aren't as trim as a disposable, so he has a big bubble butt and it's hard to get pants over it. The diapers also take up more space in our diaper bag and I still feel a little self-conscious changing his diaper out in public for fear of people thinking I'm weird for taking home something he crapped in. I never thought I'd be a cloth diapering, babywearing, co-sleeping, hippie kind of mama, but somehow that's how it worked out. :)
Here he is in a pre-fold and cover. The pre-fold diaper is the cloth diaper of yore, the kind you pin (or just keep loose in the cover, like I did here).
Baxter turned two months old this week!
I'm continually amazed by this little guy. He grows so fast and is so sweet (when he's not crying). :) I go back to work in one month and am already not looking forward to it. He changes so much from day to day that I'm afraid I'll miss something!
